Intrauterine sperm injections (IUI)
An artificial insemination procedure known as intrauterine insemination (IUI) is used to treat infertility in women.
When the ovary releases one or more eggs for fertilization, sperm are cleansed and concentrated before being inserted straight into the uterus.
Sperm are moved into the fallopian tube through intrauterine insemination and fertilise the egg, leading to a healthy pregnancy. If you are unable to conceive naturally, IUI can be used in conjunction with your regular cycle, or it can be used in conjunction with fertility medicines.
The IUI procedure only takes a few minutes and does not involve the use of any drugs or medicines.
An intravaginal speculum is used during the surgery. A long, thin catheter is attached to the end of a vial of healthy sperm . It is inserted into the vagina via the cervical hole and into the uterus via the catheter The tube is then inserted into the uterus and the sperm sample is extracted. Catheter removal occurs next, after the speculum has been placed.
Who can benefit from IUI?
When IUI doesn’t work, couples can move on to IVF, which is a more invasive but less expensive procedure. Usually, IUI is the only way to get pregnant.
A male partner’s sperm or a donor’s sperm can be used in an IUI procedure. If you’re having trouble getting pregnant for no apparent reason, you’re probably going to need IUI. It’s commonly used to treat infertility, difficulties with the cervix or cervical mucus, mild endometriosis, and low sperm count.
Women with moderate to severe endometriosis, women who have had both fallopian tubes removed or obstructed, women who have had multiple pelvic infections, severe fallopian tube illness, and men who produce no sperm are all ineligible for this treatment.
IVF may be useful in cases where IUI is not suggested. Consult the best gynaecologist in Karachi to learn about your possibilities for conceiving a child.
Following the Process
You’ll be on your back for a short time after insemination. After the operation, you’ll be able to get dressed and go about your day as normal. For a few days after the treatment, there may be some light spotting.
It is impossible to predict the outcome of IUI because each couple’s response is unique. Several factors impact on the outcome, including age and the underlying cause of infertility.
Women over the age of 40 and those who have not become pregnant after three cycles of IUI have lower success rates for IUI.
Intrauterine insemination is a safe and effective procedure for many women and couples who are having trouble getting pregnant
